It's called "Terrapin-itis" and you can clearly see it in those who believe the first Terrapin ever performed at the Swing in '77 is the best ever, when...objectively listening to not only the botched lyrics but the relative timidity of the execution...it clearly is not.

The only known cure(s) are 1/22/78, 3/15/90, or almost any other version from '77 other than the first.

As far as the Dead is concerned I can't think of any song outside of Day Job that was nailed on the debut...
